The 9 locks of Fonseranes
Major work of the Canal du Midi, the 9 locks of Fonseranes are located in Béziers. A water staircase, 312m- long, allows barges and boats to cross a 25m lowering. It was for the time an extraordinary technical exploit, realized by Paul Riquet, as a tribute to its home town. In 1996, it is the world which paid him tribute, by classifying the Canal du Midi and the 9 locks as World heritage.
